| According to a recent study by the FDA that evaluated reports of fatal
medication errors, the most common errors involving medications are
related to improper dosage amounts, which account for 41 percent of
fatal medication errors. An additional 16 percent of these fatal errors
involve patients being given the wrong drug or a drug that is
administered via the wrong route. Almost half of all fatal medication
errors are made on patients over 60 years old. The elderly generally
are at greater risk for such medical malpractice because they often
take multiple prescription medications. |
