Federal regulations require all nursing homes to have written
policies called the Nursing Home Resident's Bill of Rights. Further,
nursing homes are required to present these policies to any resident
that requests them. The typical nursing home Bill of Rights should
afford residents the right to:
- Privacy, dignity, and respect
- Be informed about their medical condition and treatment
- Participate in planning their medical care and treatment
- Choose their own physician
- Manage their personal finances
- Have personal possessions
- Voice grievances without retaliation
- Receive or refuse visitors
- Be discharged or transferred only for medical reasons
If you or a loved one has been denied these rights or has been physically, emotionally, or sexually abused, contact McElyea & Barnard, P.A.
